PVC pipes (Polyvinyl chloride) are a combination of vinyl and plastic. This pipe type is used in almost 75% of sanitary sewer pipe applications in the U.S. (source: wisegeek.com) and has replaced the use of cast iron and galvanized pipes for many common plumbing applications. These pipes are most commonly used in more of a commercial or large scale type of application in that they can be used only for cold water and require approval to be used for drinking water. These pipes are also used for underground wiring, and sewer lines. You may be wondering then in what household application would a PVC pipe be useful? The answer is that they are most commonly used to carry the water from he main supply to a home. PVC pipes are used frequently in earthquake prone areas, such as San Diego, because they have the ability to withstand extreme movement and bending.

Benefits of PVC Pipes

  • Durable – PVC pipes are super strong, which, as mentioned above, makes them a great pipe for shaky ground.
